Wing Shooting South Africa

Bird shooting South Africa - The diverse habitat, ranging from barren windswept mountains, down to sub-tropical low-lying wetlands, provides for the largest variety of game birds available in the country. Whether it be for the collector of specific game bird species, or the avid wing shooter seeking the ultimate bird hunting experience, our premier wing shooting areas provide for all enthusiasts.

Wing shooting South Africa has grown over the last few years, with more and more international hunters wanting to have a different experience to their traditional wing shooting in their home countries. Many wing shooting safaris are combined with plains game hunting offering hunters two different hunting experiences.

In many instances, game birds are shot as an additional activity to trophy hunting. However, since most hunting takes place in the cooler months, this coincides with the breeding seasons of most game birds. This is having a serious impact on populations throughout southern Africa but particularly in Botswana and South Africa.

The most popular bird hunting in South Africa is shooting rock pigeons. They descend in their thousands into cultivated fields causing damage to farmers' crops. Hunting takes place throughout the day with peaks in the early morning and the mid afternoon. The season varies from area to area.
